Pre- and Post-partum Pain: hands on techniques and exercise
instruction.
Pregnancy is an Olympic event that places an increased stress
on the heart, lungs and skeleton. Many of the common complaints
associated with pregnancy can be prevented with simply stretching
and/or strengthening muscles in the body. We can help if you are
experiencing back, sacroiliac or neck pain, shoulder pain, urinary
incontinence, foot/knee pain, and numbness or tingling in the
hands or feet. Exercise has been proven to be very beneficial
to the mother and child during pregnancy, and we can develop a
safe and effective exercise program for you. After the delivery,
it is crucial to regain abdominal and pelvic floor strength. Muscles
that were stretched out need to be re-educated quickly to regain
their normal tone and length. Retraining the pelvic floor will
prevent urinary incontinence and improve normal pelvic function.
Strong abdominal muscles help support the back and prevent lifting
injuries as you care for your new child. We will also educate
you on body mechanics during feeding, carrying and lifting your
child.

Urinary Incontinence and Pelvic Pain: biofeedback guided
pelvic floor strengthening.
Urinary Incontinence affects millions of Americans. It is one
of the most common admitting diagnoses to Long Term Care Facilities.
Urinary Incontinence is a condition that can lead to decreased
activity level and social isolation. Incontinence is often accepted
as a consequence of childbearing or growing older, but this does
not have to be true. The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that
support the bladder. Like muscles anywhere in the body, they too
can become weak or overstretched. Similarly, the pelvic floor
muscles can be strengthened with exercise. We can help you identify
your pelvic floor muscles and teach you how to strengthen them
properly.

Osteoporosis Management: education on posture, body mechanics
and exercise.
Osteoporosis is a disabling disease that affects millions of
woman each year. A woman's risk of suffering an osteoporotic fracture
is greater than her risk of developing breast and uterine cancer
combined. It has been well established that weight-bearing exercises
help decrease the detrimental effects of this disease. We will
develop an individualized weight-bearing exercise program to be
sure you are exercising safely without putting your spine at risk
for a fracture. Healing Bridge Physical Therapy offers customized
services for osteoporosis including education on posture, balance
training to prevent falls, and do's and don'ts on basic household
chores such as unloading the dishwasher or ironing. The treatment
you receive will provide you with valuable tools to improve your
skeletal strength, decrease your risk for falls and improve your
overall awareness of your posture.

Breast Cancer and Reconstruction Treatment: specialized
exercise program designed to restore range of motion and improve
function.
Breast Cancer is a terrifying disease that can alter movement
patterns, strength and activity level. We work with women following
lumpectomies or mastectomies, with a focus on regaining range
of motion in the shoulder and arm, preventing and/or managing
lymph edema, scar tissue massage, and strength training. We will
help you return to your previous activity level safely, integrating
the changes in your body.
