Thursday March 18th 5:30-7:00 pm Quick, Easy Fixes for Stress and Pain

Demystifying Pain
Why do some pains go away, and others seem to linger on and on and on?
Why do some people end up with chronic pain, and others don't? Are some pains really "all in your head?" What is the Body - Mind connection when it comes to pain? What does "no pain, no gain" really mean if I'm already in a lot of pain?

Knowledge is Power. Come to this dynamic workshop and get a complete understanding of the difference between pain in your muscles, joints, nerves, and your BRAIN. Learn how to resolve long lasting pain experiences and what kind of exercise is "safe" even if there is some pain and discomfort. Learn how mindfulness and self-pacing can help you get more done when pain keeps getting in your way.

Quick, Easy Fixes for Stress and Pain
(The perfect follow up to "Demystifying Pain")

Learn invaluable ways to change the chronic fight-or-flight response to stress and bring moments of peace into your busy life. Stress affects all components of our health: musculo-skeletal, immune, cardiovascular, respiratory, emotional, and relational. Discover simple techniques that can be used anytime of the day and night to help notch down the pace of your treadmill that keeps you from enjoying your life to the fullest. Research shows that the number one factor that negatively affects all aspects of health is STRESS. This is also one thing that you CAN control.

Allison Suran, Physical Therapist (1987), Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner (1996), has been studying the mind-body connection for over 25 years and is continuing to deepen her practice through integrating the latest in neuro-scientific brain research.

The Embodied Life

May 22nd - 23rd, 2010

St. Charles Health and Learning Center

Cost:
2 or more: $140 each
$150 by 4/23/10
or $160 thereafter

Our bodies live in the present moment, while sometimes our minds are elsewhere. True satisfaction only exists in our Presence, through being consciously alive in the present moment. The Embodied Life workshop inquires deeply into this basic, genuine and satisfying reality.

The workshop will include several gentle Awareness Through Movemenlessons, in-depth discussions of awareness and Q & A offered by Russell, as well as short meditations.

Awareness Through Movement® lessons are ingenious sensory/motor explorations designed
by Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, to improve movement, expand attentional capacities and develop mental clarity. As we reduce unnecessary habitual tension, our breathing and posture become more skeletal, thus easier, more natural and satisfying. Surprisingly, people at all levels of health can benefit
from the same lessons.

Meditation We will explore a simple, non-sectarian approach to the study of ourselves, through
direct, personal experience of the ‘living truth’. Settling comfortably into the moment, ‘just as it is,’ without manipulation, becomes the basis for living a deeper, more connected life.

Please bring a blanket, mat, or pad to lie on for the ATM movement lessons, alternately there is the option to sit on a chair.

Carol Delmonico is happy to answer any questions about these events. Call her at 541-389-0831, or email: carol@intobalancecoaching.com

The meditation we practice is a bare-bones approach to experiencing the present moment as it is; this is the basis for being at home in ourselves. Beyond ideology, it addresses the question: unless we learn to be at ease within our body/mind, can we ever be deeply at peace? This workshop is of interest to anyone who is already on the path towards awakening in this lifetime. You will experience meaningful and joyful time through a combination of meditations, Feldenkrais® movements, and awareness practices and conversation.

The Feldenkrais Method of Awareness Through Movement® is recognized as a brilliant sensory/motor approach to re-educating the nervous system and for developing clear self awareness. This method is used throughout this workshop. Our physicality can be a great ally in this process.

About the Instructor: Russell began his study of body/mind perspectives and human potential in 1969 as an undergraduate student in psychology. At this time he consciously began his commitment toward awareness and freedom along with his practice of meditation. Russell is able to help guide people away from self-defeating habits into happier, more successful and engaging lives.

In 1984 Russell became one of the first people in the world authorized to lead Feldenkrais® Professional training programs. He has helped in the training of more than 2000 Feldenkrais teachers in 10 different countries. Russell's teaching has been strongly influenced by more than thirty years of meditation, predominately in the Zen tradition. Perhaps the strongest influences on Russell's life are his almost 30 years of relationship with Linda and the journey of fathering his daughter, Lily.
