Spring 2004 Newsletter

by Healing Bridge staff

Remember to bend your knees and lift with your leg muscles, not your back muscles, when picking up your little one.

Keep the baby carrier as close to you as possible when lifting in and out of the car.

Don’t twist your back when transferring baby’s toys and laundry from place to place.

Vary the position you carry your child. Try front carry, football carry, hip carry (use both hips!), and shoulder carry.

Use a pillow to support your baby when breastfeeding. This will reduce the strain on your upper back and shoulders.

Make sure you have good low back support when rocking your child to sleep and be careful not to fall asleep in the chair!
