10 healthy tips for the 4th of July

June 2010 Wellness Notes

Celebrate the 4th of July and remember to stay healthy!

  • Fill up on 2 glasses of water before having that hamburger smothered with all the fixings.
  • Park your car down the street from Pilot Butte and then walk to the base to watch the fireworks.
  • Go for a walk up Pilot Butte on the 5th and see where they put out all the potential fires.
  • Drink plenty of water eat lots of fresh fruit.
  • Celebrate the 4th and stay cool by making red, white and blue water balloons and having a fun water balloon fight.
  • Wear sunscreen and re-apply frequently.
  • Make sure to practice safe firework lighting techniques and watch children at all times.
  • Take time to call a loved one and wish them a happy 4th of July.
  • Walk around while chatting so you get some exercise too.
  • Enjoy the festivities by going to the parade and walking with your children and/or your pets.
  • Give thanks for your freedom and that in the United States we get to make our own independent choices - and even though they may differ from our neighbors, we can still share a good talk at the mailbox, watch each others pets when we're out of town, and share the holidays that make us uniquely American.

    Make a red, white and blue smoothie
    1c. lowfat vanilla yogurt
    ½ c blueberries
    ½ c. strawberries
    ¼ c. ice, blend and enjoy.
